Hibakusha
('bomb-effected people')

WWII. Hiroshima. Nagasaki.

When the Atomic Bombs were dropped on Hirohaima and Nagasaki, the people who servived such a devistating confront were given a specific name: Hibakusha, Bomb-Effected People.

Many of you know the effects an Atomic Bomb can have on a person. I won't go into the details. It's not a preaty sight really.

Anyway, this image came about with no idea on what it would be about. I started with a Mask of a (what appeared to be) a Japanese Women face, which ended up terning into this somewhat deformed, decaying face.

I'm not being racist. This image is to express (with no actual harm to any individual) the effects a Bomb could have on someone. And since the face that was used looked liked Japanese, the name Hibakusha came to mind; which worked.

This new series is heavy on texture photomanipulation. I don't try to say I'm the best at it. In fact, I like the unnatural feel it gives. You can almost tell I don't know much about what I'm doing, and I think that's why it works.

I'd love to know what you think.

wow..thats pretty clever
:D Thanks. I never thought about it being clever. I just thought the image worked with the word (though the word came about once the image itself was finished).
interesting. the face kind of scares me. i like how the photos in the other pieces blend in a little more. and i would move the text a little. right now it looks like it's about to jump into her mouth.

:D The face should be scary. Tis the horror that is the Atomic Bomb. I agree with the blending. I didn't do as much in this one. But I felt the brown gave a more burnt look to it; as if it were originally burned, then rusted and decayed for a few years afterwords.

I'll look into the text. I chose that specific spot for the background texture had this sort of line that was much ligher in color right there, and so I thought adding the text there would add the needed thing to keep that from being such an eye attract-er. :paranoid:
ok, cool. you've got good reasons. that's what;s important

This is a lot better than CRISIS, in my opinion. I'm going to have to explore the textures used.

:D This is my first attempt at trying to use different textures for different objects in the image (instead of all on the same). It was interesting, trying to make the textures used work with each other and not clash. :frustrated: But that's the fun with working in this style. :aww:

Thanks for your honest feedback. I greatly appreciate that.
Wow.. that gave me chills....
